Has anyone tried NAC

Postby Alexicon » Sat Mar 31, 2018 6:19 pm

Some studies have shown that NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) has helped calm the pulling urges for some people. About 50% of the participants said their urges had subsided somewhat during the treatment. I read a recent interview where one of the researchers recommended taking a 600mg pill twice a day. Has anyone tried this yet? I'm going to start it today and see if I fall into the lucky half.

I've tried it for a short while (around a month), and I don't think it really helped me much. I stopped because of the smell and how gassy it was making me though : (

my doctor wants me to start it soon. from the studies I've read and in other forums/reviews. you need to stay on it for like 2-3 months at least to see if it will help. its just like a medication i think some people might see a difference in 2 weeks and others in 8 weeks. everyone reacts and works differently..

None of the medications have helped me so far, so I am willing to try it for 3 months to see if it will make a difference. It is really annoying..

Any feedback from anyone would be appreciated :D

From what i know of NAC from another place it doesn't last very long in the body, so people might want to try taking it 3x a day and preferably using a sustained release version.
I don't have any experience with trich but I would expect it to work fairly quickly if it's going to work (days rather than weeks) but it seems to be a pretty good thing to take anyway, so no harm in taking it for weeks or longer just in case it suddenly kicks in. Only realistic downside I've come across is it interferes with the gains from exercising, so don't take it for a while (24 hrs? don't know) after a workout if you want to get faster/ stronger. As always there can be unusual individual reactions, so if that's you stop taking it.

I tried NAC and I go on taking it. Additionally I take MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane), Inositol and Vitamin C. This combination made me stop pulling. My life has very much improved since then.

Just some more information:
I take 3 g of Inositol, 1.6 to 2 g of NAC, 5 g of MSM and around 1.5 g of Vitamin C to prevent kidney stones (preventing NAC oxidation).

My hair is growing beautifully and I like to color a strand of hair every day with hair chalk. I couldn't have imagined that in the 30+ years of pulling.

I call it "Kristina's integrable supplement solution". You can start it any time beside all your other therapies (this means integrable).

Best regards,
