It's it possible to "forget" trichotillomania?

It's it possible to "forget" trichotillomania?

I shaved where I pull the most and I wonder if it's possible to just simply "forget" about trich while the hair is short. Has anyone succeeded in this?

I've been pulling my eyebrows since I'm 7 years old or at least that's the first time when I clearly remember. I have to say I don't pull per se (but it gives me great satisfaction when a hair comes out). I've been more or less "breaking" my hair by sliding my fingers across the brow with my index and middle finger. A new thing is sliding my thump over it too. I still got bald patches in my brows which I sometimes had to cover up with brow pencil.

What I've tried: gloves, putting vaseline on my hair, holding a smooth stone. I tried to limit the damage by only pulling one certain area which wasn't too important and I would have tweezed anyways. Which sorta worked.

My best friend so far is my tangle. I love watching TV and just holding it. Even now that I shaved I still use it. But does that mean that I wouldn't be able to forget pulling? I still have that tingly feeling in my fingers. However when the urge comes, I remember "There is nothing to pull" and that gives me motivation. I honestly think that keeping my hair short where I pull is the best long-term solution for me. I only hope I don't transfer to pulling somewhere else. I caught myself playing with my bangs. I never used to pull my head hair.

Can anyone else relate to me? Was someone of you able to forget trich or at least replace it with something less harmful?

Yes. All you have to do is pay attention to the impulse and just not do it. It's hard at first, but you get better at it.
