Have you ever personally MET someone with Trichotillomania?

Postby strawberrygirl » Sun Mar 09, 2014 8:11 pm

And by personally MET, I mean, physically meeting them in person?

How did you feel after meeting them and discussing trich with them?

Did you feel any better?

Did meeting such a person, improve your Trich or the negative feelings you had about yourself and Trich?

Please discuss your feelings when you met that person and your thought process. I am interested to know as I've never met a Trich person in real life, and haven't even been able to make friends with any online as people seem busy or uninterested.

Thank you

Lol did you scare them, is that why?
Or perhaps people just hide that they have Trich/ :)

Well I hope there is more awareness raised about Trich. I often talk in third person to people saying I ''know someone who has Trich'' and people look at me with shocked expressions, not knowing I am indeed speaking about myself :S

Scary world :(

--So do you think that two trich people would get on better, than a trich + non trich person? I believe so, except, I've never had the chance to prove it

I don't know of any Trich support groups in my area (I live in England). But if I actually met a girl with trich, I would feel so much better knowing there's someone who would not be freaked out if I told them I have trich

I have Trichotillomania and when I was 12 and started secondary school I met another girl who was in my form who also suffered from TTM and we became friends and bonded over the fact that we knew someone else with the condition. It makes you feel that you are not alone.

I am now 22 and although I am not as close with the girl we are still friends and came speak to each other about it if we need to.

I've been surprised by the amount of people I've met with this disorder, yes I could count on one hand how many, but still. I used to think I was the only person on the planet with it. Its actually pretty rare you'll see someone who's practically bald from it. If you see someone with what appears to be extrememely "broken/damaged' hair they easily could have the disorder

I sometimes see colleagues or shop assistants with very thin and missing hair. But of course I am afraid to ask.

In my case it is hard to see so no one asks me too. So the only meeting place is the internet.

It's not something that comes up in casual conversation, so I don't know. I think maybe my brother had/has a mild case of it, though. I've never asked him.
