Urge to repeat "funny" things when watching TV. Echolalia?

Postby theatrequalslove » Fri Apr 22, 2011 9:59 pm

I'm new to this forum. I'm 18 and have had mild/moderate Tourette's since I was 4 as well as moderate OCD. I have been void of audible vocal tics for a while now that I'm older, minus some internal ones like breath holding and diaphragm spasms. Lately when watching TV I repeat things that were funny or had an impact on me in the same way the character did. At first it didn't seem strange because I'm a really talkative person. I blew it off as just me not being able to shut up. But lately I've become conscious of it right after I do it. It's like something in head is like "say it, maybe they missed it, you wouldn't want them to have missed that, it was funny, you should reenact it". Not sure if I'm making sense but is this sounding like echolalia to anyone else? I had Palilalia as a kid but haven't had anything similar in quite a few years.

THANKS! :D

How many times do you repeat the line (or whatever)? Do you only say it once or do you repeat it over and over in succession? This might give you an idea of whether or not it's echolalia.

Hey theatrequalslove , I know exactly what you mean as I have exactly the same thing happen to me but I get a good laugh out of it and everyone else does as well. :D

Because I've naturally got a good sense of humour, my brain is like a sponge to comedy which helps me see the funnier side of life such as turning negatives into positives. Also with the Echolalia, I go into a scottish accent and that is because a scottish girl had a big impact on my life therefore the accent shows itself when I'm very stressed or upset.

Kool though, Thought I was only one and going completely mad haha.

Cheer's lol
