are these tics?

Postby face » Wed May 06, 2009 4:16 pm

well basically i have involuntary movements in my right leg (it kicks out like when you hit your knee), in my stomach muscles, twisting in my back and my neck.
They happen mostly when I'm alone and my mind is wondering. They tend to happen when I think of a mistake I made and that I regret a lot, or when I'm feeling depressed. They also happen every night before I fall asleep (I don't know if they happen while I sleep).
I have no control over them and have no urge to do them, they just happen out of the blue.
I've had them for well over a year, but I haven't got them checked out and have no idea what they could be.
Any ideas?

Hi,

I don't believe that these are related to Tourette's. In fact, many people get such things and it's just nerve cells firing random impulses. It could be related to new nerve cells growing, or old ones dying and giving off a final death 'blast'. I'm not sure really, but I'm almost certain that it's not related to Tourette's / Tics.

oh cool. Now I just need to find out what they are although your explanation seems quite convincing. I don't know any one else who experiences the same things. They aren't particularly subtle, more like mini seizures and they only happen in correlation with certain emotions. I guess I can go on ignoring them though, but its embarassing if they happen in public.
Thanks for the reply.

So, they are actually quite 'violent'? I mean, like, your leg would shake a lot, noticeably so? I was thinking that it was just a slight 'bump' type of thing - I get those all of the time.

well with my leg its just the one kick. But sometimes my back twists left and right over and over again pretty violently or my abs clench a bunch of times which makes me heave over. It never lasts more than 2 or 3 seconds so I wouldn't call it a seizure. still its not a pretty sight..

I'm at a loss as to what it could be now. I have done a little research though and at least found out what it's called (I think): Myoclonus

Look that up and see if it describes what's happening to you.

ahh yes that looks about right to me.. I remember now, it first started when I got reeally stoned a couple years ago and I ended up on the floor twitching all night. I kind of regret that now. At least it doesn't seem harmful.
Thanks for the help.

OMG I've seen these before! It's not tourettes, but I'll post again if I recall or find out. I used to live with someone who would get these neurotic impulses.
