DBT or CBT to help with symptoms?

Postby Weetzie Bat » Sat Aug 29, 2009 8:17 pm

sorry if this is in the wrong place, currently im not sure if my problems are due to being depressed or because of the medication i take, but i know they can be symptoms of depression, so...

i struggle with lack of motivation and concentration and its got worse recently.. my CPN said she thinks some DBT exercises might help but i dont see her again for awhile and im wondering if anyone has tried anything like this for these problems? is there anything online i could read?

i really need to sort this out asap because i started an open learning course a month ago and cant even seem to start it...that and a million other daily tasks im neglegting.

thanks

Hey,

Which medication are you on?; and how long have you been on it for? Be aware that they can take a long time to become effective.

im on Effexor 375mg, Risperidone 5.5mg, Carbamazepine 100mg.

I've been on the first two for years and the other for about 3 or 4 months. The Carbamazepine has done wonders for my mood swings and impulsivness though so i know its working.

we're talking about reducing the Risperidone, so i dont know, maybe that will help..?

it was after starting medication that my motivation and concentration became a problem, i even ended up dropping out of college after starting an antipsychotic... but i dont feel i can live withought medication, its kept me stable. thats why im going to ask about a medication to counteract the side effects (the motivation and concentration problems)

Hi,

Perhaps your questions should be directed at your doctor. I certainly cannot say much about them specifically, but I will say this: You have coincided the taking of medication to things going wrong in your life, which might very well not be the case. These bad things would probably have happened irrespective of whether you started the medication or not.
