Therapy after pet abuse/loss

Postby ninas » Fri May 26, 2023 6:09 pm

Hi, this is Ninas

I am wondering if anyone has information on therapy for people who have lost pets and/or experienced trauma due to being witness to animal abuse/cruelty as a child... website, therapist, organization? Any info will be much appreciated. Thank you....Ninas

My past few cats have been 'Rescues'. The older cats are free, in good health, have all their shots & have a microchip. I always leave a donation to the SPCA.
When my sister's cat passed, I made a donation to the shelter in her cat's name. The shelter sent my sister a hand-written letter of remembrance in her cat's name. I didn't know what else to do or how to memorialize her loss. My sister was very grateful for the gift.

The needs at animal shelters are great. They need support. I implore people to spay & neuter. An animal should be treated as a member of the family. They are intelligent and loving brothers & sisters. They depend on us to do the right thing & provide a stable living situation.
I feel better knowing that I helped a pet-in-waiting. That helps me. :D

Thanks Wally, for answering.
I'm glad that help you feel better.
Where I live, I can't have pets but my adult kids have a dog and a cat.
Sometimes I can spend time with them. My feelings about animals are dead.
I'm having memory stuff happening. So think I should get into
therapy. Going to try to talk with my doctor but have to wait a month
for appt. It's hard to get him on the phone.
Thanks again.
