I have been consistently diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia for about five and a half years. My very first diagnosis was Psychosis by one psychiatrist, then Disorganized Schizophrenia by another psychiatrist, Schizophrenia by a psychologist, and then Paranoid Schizophrenia by a psychiatrist at a partial hospital program. After that, I saw an APRN who seemingly did not diagnose me with anything. She indicated that I had Schizophrenia in what she said. She would say things like, "So you don't hear voices?" And then she would follow up with a remark that implied that just because I did not hear voices does not mean I don't have Schizophrenia. Then I saw another psychiatrist who was entertaining the idea that I had Bipolar Disorder. But she did not officially diagnose me with anything. After I saw her, I switched psychiatrists again. This psychiatrist diagnosed me officially with Paranoid Schizophrenia. And I have been seeing him ever since then. Every time I saw him, he would reinforce his diagnosis with Paranoid Schizophrenia. And maybe a few years after that, he changed his official diagnosis to Paranoid Schizophrenia and Social Phobia. I have been diagnosed by him with both ever since. I have been seeing him for about five and half years.
I don't know what constitutes being psychotic. Sometimes I wonder if I am being treated for the right thing, too. Thanks for your reply.
