Unhappy with therapy

Postby starfish098 » Thu Nov 12, 2015 12:18 am

I am very unhappy with the mental health therapy I have received so far.

It has become clear to me that the goals of the mental health therapists and psychiatrists treating me are very different from my own goals. I have seen male therapists who are aggressive and dominating, and female therapists who are jealous and vindictive. My current psychiatrist is gathering too much information (TMI) on me, more than she needs for appropriate treatment. The therapists are also not very willing to refer me to other resources that might help me, and insist on front-running any contact I have with them. This, too, is making me feel uncomfortable, because it is inappropriate.

They also call me from a telephone number that is either private, or has an invalid (spoofed) Caller ID.

These therapists are very concerned that I fulfill what they see as an "appropriate" gender role, and not at all concerned that I find a fulfilling relationship in life.

I can perhaps explain more on some of these issues in another thread, but my main question is: How do I find a better therapist? Two large agencies effectively monopolize mental health services in the area where I live, and they are equally bad. Do I need therapy? Is this going to help me?

We dont have such agencies here as far as I know. Here you just make appointments with therapists and see in the first few talks who fits and who doesnt. In the best case scenario you already have an idea what you want treatment for or you have a diagnosis that you can talk about and see if the person you are seeing has experience working with people that share your problems.
