Student Help

Postby ashleydarran88 » Fri Nov 13, 2009 3:37 pm

I'm a student at Kingston University in London studying Product Design and I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions that I have about Seasonal Affective Disorder and Light Therapy.

I'm a third and final year student and one of my major projects is looking at Seasonal Affective Disorder. I'm not a sufferer myself, but I am interested in designing a product to aid sufferers. I want to identify the key area's that you feel need improvement and I was wondering if anyone could give me some help, this primary research is vital.

If anyone could email me if you're willing to help, that would be hugely appreciated, then if possible I could interview you via email or phone. Whatever you feel most comfortable with.

If you have the time, it would be greatly appreciated.

Or if its easier to talk via the forum please let me now.

Thank you in advance :)

Hi,

I moved this to the Survey's and Studies forum, but there's still a 'shadow' of it back where you originally posted it. I know Kingston uni actually, as I was called for interview there earlier this year for a PhD! I had already accepted another position though. Anyway, as far as I'm aware, there are already special lamps available for light therapy. However, kin my own opinion, if a room has four walls, then there should be a bright light either in each corner or in the middle of each wall. Haveing just one main light is not good enough, and I think that everywhere has to be illuminated.

Thank you. I've written out a few questions for sufferers of SAD if anyone has time to get back to me, it would be greatly appreciated. I know the questions are quite broad at the moment, and these are only just to start. I might add more when I gather more information.

Thanks in advance :)

How does Seasonal Affective Disorder affect you?

Are you taking any medication for the condition?

Have you tired ay therapy techniques?

Have you ever tried light therapy?

If no, why? Would you consider it?

Are there any problems you've discovered with light therapy?

Do you think the expensive pricing of light boxes is justified?

How often do you use light boxes?

Would you use them if they were free on the NHS?

If sessions were available for private in salon's for example, would you consider going to them?
