Paid smartphone study on daily emotions (US adults)

Time commitment: Participation in this study will require approximately 2.5 hours total. After a brief screening, participants will receive more information about the study. Those who consent to participation will then complete a first compilation of surveys which will take approximately 30 minutes. Daily assessments will be spread out over the course of the day and take approximately 30 minutes each day for 3 days. Daily assessments will be completed by smartphone, and most assessments are designed to take less than 1 minute. After the assessment period, participants will complete a second series of surveys. These last surveys will also take approximately 30 minutes.

Eligibility requirements: Each participant must be 18 years or older and live in the United States of America. Each participant must have a smartphone and be able to receive text messages and complete brief online surveys from the hours of 10 AM to 8 PM each day. Participants must have experienced 5 or more incidents of intentional self-injury and/or 2 or more incidents of suicidal thoughts in the past year.

Description of study: The purpose of this study is to collect data about people’s emotions and emotional reactions in daily life. This study examines how people experience various thoughts and emotions. Participants will fill out a brief online screening and receive information online. They will begin the study by completing a compilation of surveys online. For the following 3 days, participants will use their smartphones to complete brief assessments about their emotions and each day’s events. After the 3 days, participants will complete a second compilation of surveys.
