Body Dismorphic Syndrome

Postby scarlett7 » Sun Jun 08, 2008 2:05 am

Hello, is there anyone who suffers from this?? Im too embarrassed to seek help because it makes me uncomfy talking about it but its ruining my life.

Because no body knows how I feel, people think Im an stuttering, socially awkward joke. people always call me vain because i always check out my reflection, but its just because I have to check my face looks symmetrical!

I look to the floor all the time and pretend to be on my phone when out alone, just so I dont have to look at anyone.

does anyone out there feel the same, and how effective is help??

Hey,

You shouldn't be embarrassed by this because it is very common. I felt embarrassed by having an eating disorder and being male but I am not embarrassed anymore. It's just a problem that I have and it can happen to anyone. You should really talk to somebody about what is going on in your head because you won't be able to go this alone. Granted, you are 'talking' to people here on this forum by making your post, but there is nothing better than physically talking to someome.

I can offer some advice though: Set yourself small goals each day such as:

'Today, I won't look in a shop window at my reflection'
'Today, I won't check my weight'
'Today, I will limit the amount of times I look in the mirror'

This is basic help but I hope it works for you.

Take care,
Kevin
