Social phobia is a type of anxiety disorder. People who have social phobia experience extreme and persistent anxiety associated with social or performance situations. A person with social phobia experiences anxiety in situations where they are likely to be scrutinised and observed by others. They may have persistent fears about being judged, criticised, ridiculed or humiliated.

I was going to ask the same thing. I think that people with AS can be shy, but not all of them are. Do you have an obsession with a particular topic? That seems to be part of AS. Also the inability to read social cues is part of AS. Like not understanding other people's facial expressions or how they will react to you if you say something. That in itself can cause anxiety, so it seems that there is a fine line in some cases.

Not all people with Aspergers have social anxiety. Their social difficulties are usually because of misunderstanding of social rules and not anxiety.
Even though many people with AS have Social Anxiety, many more do not; but have anxiety because they don't know how to act.
