I totally agree with your desire to escape from the misery of social anxiety. I do not have the courage to hurt myself, but I wish every day for a heart attack or something that would kill me.

At 30 yrs old and a college student, and having suffered intensely with social phobia since the 3rd grade, I have found something finally that might be a cure!!! Just keep this name on your radars.....NAET. Do internet searches on it. Go to

http://www.naeteurope.com/composite-65.htm

It's relatively new and talks mainly about allergies, but it says allergies that we didn't know we have are causing us all this pain!!

Don't go do something tragic like hurting yourself. This might be a cure. And if it isn't something else might come up that is.

Social Phobia

Postby Ativan Man » Mon Mar 13, 2006 2:28 pm

I've suffered with social phobia for most of my life, I'm 47 yrs. old. I've tried all the ssri's all the snri's the TCA's and even ECT. I also suffer with chronic Major depression w/atypical features, OCD, and GAD. After 25yrs. with my current Psychiatrist he finally talked me into trying Parnate, an MAO inhibitor, and in less than 1 month my life has changed dramatically! I currently am Depression free, have 0 social phobia, 0 OCD, and 0 anxiety...it's truly been a miracle drug for me, I have never felt this good in my whole life.

Please if you are suffering and nothing is working, talk to your doc about MAOI's...they work great for most people and are not dangerous if you follow the diet properly ( it's easy to follow) . I personally think Parnate works best for social phobia and the only side effect I have is insomnia, which is successfully treated with either Trazodone, Lunesta or Ambien. Best wishes to all.

social phobia and MAOI's

Postby jaybird » Sun Mar 19, 2006 2:50 am

I am 49 years old and have had a similar experience with an MAOI in treating my Social Phobia... the MAOI I have been taking for 16 years is Nardil. It also has dietary restrictions, but is worth the time to investigate.

After only 1 month of taking Nardil in 1990, my anxiety, social phobia and depression were gone, and have not been back.

Definately talk to your doctor about MAOI medication for your social phobia!! My doctor discovered that the medication had become the medication of choice in treating Social Phobia.

Also, see my post as guest jay in the Medication topic under Social Phobia.

Good Luck!

Please don't hurt yourself

Postby jaybird » Sun Mar 19, 2006 2:58 am

Don't hurt yourself, just read the most recent posts about MAOI medication before you decide that hurting yourself is the only way to get relief.

I have been anxiety free for 16 years on this medication, so there is hope!

Try it, please... it works for more than just me, read about it in the recent posts.

Hi Ativan Man and Jaybird,

It is ironic that these medications have been around for so long, while so many people have suffered in the grip of SP.
I'm forty two and tired of that sick stomach churning feeling when I have no option but to attend a social function.
I can remember too well, being a bubbly extroverted child, before developing SP, and I mourn the child that was 'the real me'

My doctor will not prescibe Nardil or Parnate and I'm so desperate I'm considering buying Parnate over the internet. (You can't get Nardil). Do you think this is a bad idea. I've found a pharmacy in London who seem to be reputable online pharmacy escrow service.

I've got to do something.

cure is healthy self esteem. Social phobia is being over self conscious. While having healthy self esteem you are not self conscious. You might want to see it for what it is, pretty bad self esteem, bad not much of a disorder. Perhaps a thought disorder, but nothing serious or difficult to fix. I suggest you to hang around the self esteem forum where we will be able to help you with your self esteem issues.

Yes, wilko, it's a very bad, horrid idea. Don't buy medication over the Internet. This is prescription drug, how they can sell it over the Internet, I bet my life it's illegal and even worse, quite possibly no real, probably even dangerous. If you doctor doesn't prescribe, find for alternative ways to get better. Medicine is not everything. Actually when it comes to mental disorders are not much. Imagine having cancer and getting aspirin hoping to deal with the pain.
