I'm struggling with this damn social phobia issue and I just want to figure out a way to get rid of it. I want to be normal :(
Ever since I could remember I was more shy than the average boy/girl. I thought it would go away as I grew older but it hasn't. Now I'm 22 years old and am still strugling with this curse. I find it really hard to talk to people and giving presentations (for class or work) is nearly impossible for me. I blush, my voice gets shaky and I can't concentrate on the topic because the only thing I think of is how people will react when they see that I'm blushing.
Has anyone successfully overcome this issue. If so, how did you do it? Do you use a certain kind of medication or something else. Please help me out. I'm tired of this #######4 :x

Hey,

Throughout my childhood I was shy and I still am now to some extent. Presentations and talking were always difficult too but I'm 24 now and things are much easier. When you are talking, remember to speak slowly and softly. Just try to relax as much as you can and do not be afraid to express yourself. If you are tired, tell the person that. It can lead to a good conversation believe it or not. Just, really, don't be afraid to open-up.

You will not connect with everyone that you speak to, but nobody does.

Regarding presentations, the majority of people that give them are nervous. Again, try to speak slowly when giving them. Studying your work beforehand and running through the presentation in your head also helps.

If these problems are affecting you so much that your life's quality is being drastically reduced, then maybe talking to a counsellor is a good idea. ...or just keep posting here.

Take care,
Kevin.

Unless you're using a microphone, I would not recommend
speaking softly, because people may start complaining about
not hearing what you're saying, thus further distracting you.
