I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder when I was 14. At that time my teachers were concerned because I had no friends, I spent way too much time by myself, and I slept in class...in fact I slept all the time. My doctor at the time prescribed me Paxil. I hated paxil, but it and zoloft were the "in" drugs for SAD at the time. Through the years this doctor put me on a variety of drugs "approved" for SAD ( the new and patented drugs that cost a fortune of course), i.e., Paxil, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, and Effexor to name a few. None worked. So I went to another psychiatrist. When I told him my symptoms, he put me on Adderall, Wellbutrin, and Lamictal (an anticonvulsant), the theory being that my SAD was caused by low dopamine and GABA. This combination is the first that has made any difference in my symptoms. It works, but not as well as I think it should. The MDD and the fatigue are under control, but I'm not where I'd like to be with my SAD. Has anyone else experienced anything similar, and if so, what have you done? I think I'm on the right track, but things could be better.
