Paxil

Postby TheRainListener » Wed Jan 03, 2007 2:18 am

Has anyone taken Paxil for social anxiety and felt that it has helped?

I've been taking Paxil for over a month now, and I haven't noticed a change in my anxiety level.

Yes! It took about a month for it to start working though. I think the rule is that if you don't notice an improvment after 6 weeks, you should talk to your doctor about trying something else. Good luck!

I tried it, but it was so sedative that I had to quit. I made me
sleep almost all day, and to gain weight. Also, paroxetine (Paxil,
Seroxat) has been found to impair memory and to be associated
with withdrawal problems (there was a BBC documentary about
that), although personally I only felt relieved when I quit abruptly.

You may wish to try some other SSRI instead, like sertraline (Zoloft),
fluoxetine (Prozac) or citalopram. Or, you could try buspirone
(Buspar). Try to avoid the benzodiazepines (Valium, etc.) because
they are really addictive.

I tired it for about six months and I thought it kind of made me annoying as a person. Now I am on Prozac (60mg) and it has helped tremendously! My grades have gone up and I have gotten a raise for my job!

I LOVE Paxil!! It's totally changed my life. I felt better after about 12 hours, and within 3 days I was ready to start planning my habits for when I get off Paxil again.

That sounds like a good rule! Although it works great for me, I'm always the first to say it's not the best for everyone.

Paxil? What was the first name for a drug specified for treating social phobia?? PAXIL! Or in my country that is Croatia is called Seroxat or deprozel.
Anyway, I warmly recomend that you continue using it but i think that it would be even better if you take it with Klonopin. That is the perfect combination for SAD.I was taiking prozac, zoloft.normabel, zyprexa but nothing helped me that much as seroxat (paxil) combined with Klonopin.

I took it for a few months and it seemed to help aside for a few things. It's said to have a risk for suicidal thoughts in teens and young adults---Nobody told me this and upon hearing some bad news while PMSing, my friend had to chase me down to talk me out of plowing my car into the side of my ex's house.

Aside from that setback, it seemed to help lift my mood. I was ballsier than usual-- but I was tired and I felt as though it was making me think too slowly. I lost a waitressing job because I couldn't learn everything and keep up.

There are side affects--which I'm sure you've already experienced, but they eventually taper off. The withdrawals SUCK. I had to quit cold turkey because I couldn't afford it anymore and it took me a few days to stop feeling queesy.

It's different for everyone though. A friend of mine said it did nothing for her, but her problem wasn't anxiety.

My younger brother is on paxil for depression. For some reason it made the depression worse. Then we discovered that he had bipolar disorder. If somebody has bipolar and sociasl phobia, stay away from antideppressents. It will only make it worse.
