Paxil CR?

Postby 15step » Sun Nov 19, 2006 4:51 pm

The other day, I was given a prescription for 25 mg of Paxil CR by my family doctor for "moderately severe" SAD. However, I have my doubts about this medication. First off, the offical Paxil CR website clearly states that it is only approved for people 18 and over. I am a month away from 16. In the online pamphlet from Gsk, it says that the recomended initial dose for SAD (in adults), is 12.5 mg daily, so I'd be taking twice that. The pamphlet also says that if a younger person is prescribed this medication, the doctor should talk with the family about what to expect before begining treatment. It has been established that Paxil can cause suicidal feelings in younger people. As I was in the office alone, my doctor did not discuss any of these side-effects with my family, let alone me. She just wrote me the prescription for a month's worth, told me to begin taking it the next day, and said she'd see me in two weeks. Also, I've heard some of the side-effects and withdrawl effects can be horrific.

So basically, my question is this: Have any of you ever taken this medication, and what were your experiences with it?
