Does anyone here take Prozac for social anxiety?

I've been on prozac for a little over two weeks now. I can see in some ways how it's been helping me with my depression. However, it has yet to help me in regards to my social anxiety.

Hey Woolgatherer,
I'm sorry that Paxil hasn't helped with your social anxiety. Last year I tried Prozac... It had the same effect on me- helped w/ depression, but not anxiety. Maybe try it for a little longer and talk to your doctor if your social anxiety doesn't get better? There are a million other medications out there that can help!
Good luck! Hope your situation improves and that you can find the right medication.
Take care,

Ive been on prozac (fluoxetine) for about 2 months now. The first 2-3 weeks was hell, i felt quite confused and actually made my sa alot worse. This is just the brain readjusting to the extra serotonin and usually takes around a month, mabey a bit longer. You have to remember that there is no instant fix to sa...meds alone cannot get rid of it. All i can say is after 2 months of being on prozac my life has changed dramatically. I now have that twinkle back in my eye and its amazing how people can see it. I still get a bit of anxiety but only time will cure that. If youre on prozac or thinking of trying it give it a chance and be patient. Just remember this drug has the least side affects out of all of them...the symtoms you might get are only temporary.

Edit: also forgot to add that my dosage was increased to 40mg a day after the first month....so if 20mg isnt working for you then try upping the dose.

When they put me on Prozac not only could I not sleep due to horrible nightmares and had horrible headaches; but I swear that crap made me totally manic. I started doing some really bizarre stuff, definitely indicating that I had a seriously lack of judgment. I called my doc at the time and told him I was worried about my behavior and he just told me that it takes a while to get used to. Ummm... ok, so waking up in bed with two guys, rolling over and taking my birth control pill and my Prozac with a warm, flat beer is something that I should get used to?! I quit taking it on my own and stopped seeing that moron!

I haven't had that bad a side effect with any other AD's, but one of them did give me tremors something fierce... I mean I was dropping stuff and falling over, it was horrible. I've sworn of all AD's now due to side effects, they didn't help with the depression or anxiety anyway. So far the only thing that has helped with the anxiety is Ativan & Valium.
