I have suffered with social anxiety disorder for most of my life and I have tried to overcome it with medications and therapy. I was doing a bit better...sometimes I thought a lot better, when I started having a weird and new symptom: excessive sweating. It is so excessive that it is embarassing especially my face (right where everyone is looking). I didn't used to do this but now I do and now I'm feeling worse than ever.
Could this be a weird side effect of Xanax or Cymbalta or Neurontin? Or is it all psychologically created?
Peace,
Kat

All over. It is embarassing and awful and so noticable. So now I feel like hiding in the house forever.
I didn't used to do this but now .... I think I'm acting normal and THIS happens.
Peace,
Kat

why i asked is cos there is a surgery you can get called a Sympathectomy that stops your hands and feet from sweating forever. they cut the sypathetic nerve which supplies sweat to that region. I had it done and never looked back since despite the agony i went thru with the op. but it's only for the hands and feet.
so saying- i think your problem is more likely not just a genetic thing like mine was (and pretty unusual too- for the extent i had) but maybe related to psychosomatic factors, like you mentioned.
Maybe a trip to the dr might be in order?
hope it works out for u.

Thank you for your advice. I have heard of the operation that you mentioned but I believe mine is more of an all over thing than only hands and feet. I have to say that I've never known anyone who had that surgery and so I'm glad to hear that it actually works. I'm sorry to hear that it was painful, though.
Take care of yourself. And thank you again for the advice. I have a Dr.'s appointment coming up at the end of the month and I'll take up the subject with him. He seems to make light of this but I'll try again.
Peace,
Kat

i agree with you- i think it's more psychosomatic. (as i mentioned before) so why dont you ask to go to a shrink to see if you can work thru why you are feeling the way you are. gp's are so blasé half the time so i never expect much from them in that area.

a beta blocker med such as inderal reduces sweating, also blushing
learn new ways of relaxing and calming yourself too
IMO neurontin helps no more than placebo effect

Sweating isn't fun, clamminess sucks, go in front of a fan, wash your face, go out side for some fresh air, symptoms suck but we just need to deal with them as best we can. Hang in there.
