I have always been a sleepwalker too. I would always wake in the night eating cookies, so I had to stop buying cookies. Weird. I would wake each day in a complete daze, not rested, very tired all day long. I took very long naps each day, I was unable to wake from my naps, they would last 2-3 hours long. Obviously i wasnt getting a good nights sleep. So I got a sleep study done, with 'seizure probes' also included in the test (they dont always add those to the test they didnt add them to my first sleep study, and they found nothing wrong with me then), second sleep study with the seizure probes found that I was having over 100 tiny seizures in my sleep which left my brain completely exhausted in the morning and left me in a daze all the next day. I never even knew it. Who would know something like that! After the sleep study I had to follow up with a neurologist and get an EEG, to confirm the seizures I guess. And yes, I was given the diagnosis of temporal lobe epilepsy. Weird. And I thought I was just a sleepwalker. I tossed and turned in my sleep, I would dream from the moment I put my head on the pillow until the moment I awoke in the morning, sometimes. I always had the most vivid dreams, which I liked. Now I'm on medicine which controls the seizures in my sleep, and I sleep great, no more sleepwalking at all, and I am awake All day long. Sometimes I take a small nap in the daytime, which lasts about 1/2 hour long, much shorter than before. It's been only 2 months since i've started the medicine to control my seizures, and my life has changed so much that it has seemed like years have gone by. I never want to go back to the days of sleeping all day again. It was a nightmare. I had every test done in the world to figure out what was wrong with me, thyroid tests, diabetes tests, every kind of test you can think of, and no doctor could figure out why i was sleeping all day long. They even thought that I must be depressed, but I wasnt 'sad' at all, I'm very happy, other than the unfortunate excessive sleeping situation, so things didnt add up. Now I finally have a diagnosis after sleeping through 2002, 2003, and 2004. Now I read everything I get my hands on to see why I am having seizures, why I could possibly have a seizure? My son was diagnosed with the very same sleep seizures this month because of learning set backs and fatigue issues in school. I have to say that ever since we moved into this house in December 2001 that we all have been sick ever since. Eight months after we had been living in this house, I was smelling a gas leak, so I called the gas company, In July 2002 the gas company came and fixed a HUGE gas leak in our rental house. Well ironically, I smelled gas again from that same pipe , it was leaking again as of yesterday, so they came back yesterday and had to fix it Again! It didnt smell to me like it was as much gas as the first time I called them, but enough for them to make their beeping detector go off. I wonder if it has been leaking methane gas fumes into the air of our house causing us to have sleep seizures for the past three years. Well hopefully the leak is fixed this time. Who knows, maybe my entire family will start feeling much better now. What a horrible situation. Talk about the worst three years. But the gas leak and the seizure link is just a theory on my behalf. I need a methane detector.
