So a little background, my husband has been a sleepwalker pretty much all his life. So I'm pretty used to it after 7 years. He's never done anything dangerous, it's generally food related, I'll wake up in the morning to cheese all over the counter, bread laying out with bites missing, coffee can full of water lol harmless stuff. Only time I've ever seen him go outside is when we stay in a hotel but he never tries to drive thank goodness. Tonight I got up from bed to get water and walked into the smell of propane in our kitchen. Two of the knobs were turned on high with no flame. Luckily I think he had just done it because he was in the bathroom mumbling to himself when I caught it. I gently told him about it and I think it woke him up but he was disoriented and angry with himself. The most terrifying part is we have two kids and their rooms are closest to the kitchen. I have a carbon monoxide detector in the kitchen and I removed the stove knobs and hid them but I just can't sleep tonight because I'm terrified he'll still turn it on. Probably not much advice to give on this but it feels good to put it down somewhere, his sleepwalking embarrasses him so I don't tell people we know. Similar stories would probably ease my mind most. Thanks for reading and any advice is always welcome.

Has he been referred to a sleep specialist and had a sleep study done? Is he on any medications? Does he use alcohol, sugar or caffeine?
Best of luck to both of you.

Thanks for replying. He has had a sleep study, he didn't try to sleepwalk during(probably because of all the wires strapped to him?) and they didn't find anything abnormal. Doctors have prescribed him several different medications to help but they only made it worse. He's on testosterone but he's only been on that for about 6 months. He does drink coffee in the mornings and has a few beers on the weekends. From what him and my mother in law have told me he started sleepwalking in elementary school. He does it now a few times a week. More frequently if he's stressed or has something on his mind. i asked him yesterday if he remembered anything from the night before and he had no memory of me telling him or that it even happened. Feel bad for him, has to be an awful feeling not knowing what your doing in your sleep. For now I'm taking the knobs off the stove before bed and hiding them.
