Severe Sleepwalking Injury

My 19-year old son was severely injured when he plunged through his second story window while sleepwalking. He had a dream that the ceiling was crashing down on him and the only way to escape was through his bedroom window. He received over 40 stitches on his shoulder and arm. All three of my children have gone on sleepwalking adventures periodically which we thought was harmless and funny at times until this happened. We've subsequently found that serious injuries from sleepwalking are under reported, and they happen more often than people realize. Our research has also found that people, including many physicians, often are uninformed about sleepwalking and its hidden dangers. An excellent article called "Are We in the Dark About Sleepwalking's Dangers" was written by Shelly R. Gunn, M.D., PhD. and her son after he fell out of his college dormitory window while sleepwalking and broke his back. We've found that sleepwalking remains a murky misunderstood world but bottom line is if you have a child or adult sleepwalker, be proactive and safeguard the environment of your sleepwalker. You can easily protect your sleepwalker by installing inexpensive alarms. Google sleepwalking safety or sleepwalking alarms and you will find several good sources. My son has gone sleepwalking about 3 times since his injury over the past 4 years and the last time he triggered the $25 motion alarm we had placed by his bedroom window. The alarm let out a loud piercing sound which woke us up before he could go any further. Can you imagine what may have happened again if we assumed that he wouldn't go sleepwalking again? Sleepwalking is not a one time incident. If you are prone to sleepwalking or have a sleepwalker in your family, it's not a funny matter. Don't you think its a good idea to know when your sleepwalker is on the move at night? Please be proactive and protect your sleepwalker since they can't protect themselves.

My GrandFather has this problem but now it has upto an extent lessened, he many a time got injuries. once he was wounded on his forehead, but saved, it was not that much loss. sleep walking is a critical issue.

It is really a critical issue. I think every sleepwalker need to such an alarm so that they protect himself from doing some danger injuries.
