Physical pain upon waking up from nightmares

Postby Jessica » Tue Nov 29, 2005 11:21 am

Has anyone woken up from a nightmare feeling like they were electrocuted? I had a terrible nightmare where some guy was trying to abduct me and I was screaming my head off but no one came to help and I woke up right before he was about to do God knows what to me. I've had similiar dreams before and upon waking I'd feel scared and a bit panicky, but this last time I woke up feeling like what I'd imagine electrocution to feel like. I felt it for at least two minutes all throughout my body. I felt so disoriented.

A week later I had a similar thing happen after waking up. I couldn't remember what the nightmare was about but I woke up feeling like thousands of knives were pricking me.

Could these be considered night terrors?

 I know I have :x ___I get my ass kicked in my dreams sometimes while I'm slaying demons

:?: I've always wondered if the saying "if you die in your sleep you'll die in real life"...do you suppose it's true?

p.s.> I really wouldn't consider your case to be noght terrors though  (believe me when I say that).
a world abandoned by its creator, a universe in chaos, this wasteland, this killingfield, an eternity of. rotten despair..

i recently had a nightmare where my entire body was covered in bullet holes (much more to the dream than that) but durring the dream i could barely feel the shots. when i woke up i couldn't move at all and every inch of my body burnt with a horrable pain. i could feel every bullet.
but yeah, i almost always wake up feeling the injuries from my dreams.
not sure if i've survived. . .

I've only had physical pain during my nightmares, not upon waking up. I frequently just dream of being in pain. I'll remember a time when I was in physical pain and dream about it, this often causes me to yell in my sleep, or so I've been told.

When I have a case of sleep paralysis it's always of the type that occurs when sleep begins. I get the 'electrified' sensation as the precursor to the paralysis. The feeling is real.. and I've even had times where my ears "popped" 'like in an airplane.

I've had some experiences with sleep paralysis where I've woken up physically exhausted. One dream I remember was of me waking up in bed but being unable to move and I knew I was trapped inside a dream about being awake but I couldn't get out of it for what felt like twenty minutes. I woke up with my eyes open and my muscles were sore.

I have had similar issues except I don't feel electrocuted. I've had a dream in which there was a riot in my home town involving people that I knew any I got tackled, a knife pressed against my back and almost violated and when I woke up I felt everything. I've also had a nightmare in which I was branded on my wrist with electricity (I don't know) and when I woke up from that my wrist was burning. I've had a nightmare in which creatures were clawing at my legs and I woke up kicking because I still felt them but there was nothing there. I don't know what causes this sort of thing but I would like to know how to stop these occurrences. They seriously freak me out.

I experience this too, my leg has been aching and my throat has been hurting after a night terror where my leg was amputated, I screamed a lot in the dream, but made no noise according to my family

Yes! I get night terrors and I assume they are related to my PTSD. I get the exact same electrocution. I hear a buzzing sound during it and it is excruciating. I am paralysed when it is happening and I know that if I can just move then it will stop.
I take sleeping pills before bed to ward the terrors off, it also has stopped the electrocution.
