people would hurt me & use me & abuse me and i felt it was my one and only pathetic way of getting back at them -- taking items from their house for my pain and suffering.
most people would rather be sheep than to stand on their own with antlers on

I think that it can be a way of feeling in control of a part of your life too. The problem is though that it completely breaks trust if you get caught. I don't think it really substitutes for what we feel we are wishing for though.
When I was younger I used to steal. It was my way of rewarding myself. I felt like no one would treat me special enough to give me things, so I took them. But what I ended up with was just stuff that made me feel lonely when I looked at it. What I wanted really was to be acknowledged by People. To be Seen, Heard and Understood.
