new on cipralex

Hi,

I started Cipralex 5 days ago and I immediately noticed the sexual side effects. It started of as a blessing since my sex drive is way too high and i've been masturbating since I was 5 or 6. Having to think of sex less is refreshing. However, when I first masturbated after I started on the medication, I noticed that it took a while before I reached orgasm and the orgasm felt different which made it weird. Now, 5 days later, I'm getting the same feeling (weird orgasm) several times of the day even while I'm at work not thinking of sex. Has my brain circuitry gotten messed up? I'm afraid that psychologically this will make my sex life awkward. I'm glad my wife is at her 3rd trimester and does not have to put up with this.

Hi,

No, cipralex does this - i.e. it's a noted side-effect, and one that I suffered too. I think it does this because it interferes with the production of testosterone, which as you already know is commonly known as the 'male' sex hormone (although it's actually produced in females too, but lesser amounts). It's something that you could bring-up with the doc who prescribed the med, but I imagine that he'd just encourage you to bear with the symptom until your mental state is at a sufficiently-improved level that would permit you to come off the cipralex...
