Antidepressant Use & Ejaculation Disorders

Postby In need of... » Mon Apr 25, 2005 3:25 am

While most of the time anti-depressants cause retarded ejaculation or total anorgasmia, has anyone experienced problems with premature ejaculation while being treated with anti-depressants?

My husband and I have been experiencing this and the timing seems to coincide with the beginning of his treatment for depression. He is taking Wellbutrin and Lexapro. I have visited both of the websites for these drugs and while they mention sexual side effects, none of them are specific to premature ejaculation. The Lexapro website mentions "ejaculatory dysfunction" but is not specific as to if it is the inability to ejaculate or premature ejaculation. He has not always had this problem. Any insight provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wellbutrin acts differently from the SSRI anti depressents. The combination therapy he is on most likely uses the Wellbutrin to counteract the effect of the Lexapro which can retard the ejaculatory response.

Wellbutrin on the other hand raises dopamine levels in the brain and actually increases sexual responsivness. As a matter of fact Wellbutrin has been used to successfully treat men who suffer from delayed or retarded ejaculation.

Wellbutrin and an SSRI should cancel each other's sexual side effects. It looks like that is not happening in your case.I would speak to your doctor about lowering the dose of Wellbutrin and see if that helps his premature ejaculation.

I suffer from RE... all my life... way too much porn and masturbation before I started dating at around 20... anyway I have taken wellbutrin and it does take alot of the numbness away in my penis during real sex but still have trouble ejaculating during real sex... BUT, its a good improvement cause i am actually into the sex more... but alas... still can't get away from the porn at time

aie i see, well good that you are enjoying sex more, idk what to do to not be addicted to porn so much, but i've gotten over a few addictions in my lifetime, so maybe just doing somthing else would help, like listening to music, or writeing, hey you coudl write scripts for pornos or somthing, eh, but that woudl turn you on prob, sigh, lol, i'm afraid that i have not been to helpful! well, i hope it all goes well:)
