This issue is becoming more talked about now because there is a person on the Asperger's Forum who has just started a thread about the exact same thing, except she refers to both her AND her partner in it (both have taken SSRIs). I don't deny that SSRIs could very well be the cause of RE. In fact, I'm convinced about it, just as you are. What do we do though? It's already a recognised side-effect of the drugs - I guess that covers the asses of the pharmaceutical companies who produce them.

Exactly, there is not much we can do but let everyone know that SSRIs can cause RE, even after you are off of them.

SSRIs are given out like candy by general practioners.

I think so too, and it is the same for antibiotics (which results in bacteria becoming resistant to them). I think that patients put pressure on their doctors to just prescribe them something - anything. Like, I know people who go to their doctor to get an antibiotic even when they just have a Cold. The fact is that the body's immune system is more than capable of eliminating such infections.

This is great to hear about, especially when you consider that there are people out there who become depressed about the thought of having a baby (al-be-it accidentally); and yet here you are all chuffed and happy about it. This is all down to cipralex too... ...right? :)

hc666 Have you ever had your prostate checked out?

What you are describing sounds a little like prostate problems.

Oh yes have had my prostate checked, have had cysto-scopes awake and asleep, fluid dynamics done and everything over the years. They could never find anything wrong with my prostate or any of the electrical work so to speak. I was very determined to find out what was wrong with me.

No one ever knew what was wrong with me when I described the urinary and ejaculation problems. And of course no doctor around here even knows what RE is and then blames the pee thing on bashful bladder which was a total bunch of BS in m case.

The only thing I have ever done was take SSRI;s and imprimine as a young teenager and early 20s that would cause any sort of RE and urinary issues.

I am CONVINCED that SSRI/Imprimine caused by RE and other issues, even years after not taking them. And Cipralex for some reason has awakened me after I stopped taking it after a month.

Anyway I do not kid, I swear on all of this. I could never ever ejaculate in a woman until this winter and I am still doing it.

I feel so normal all of a sudden. I can't describe it.

LOL it was an accident for sure but i'm glad it happened. I never thought I would have kids before and was positive it would be the reason for another ruined releationship.

And yes I would say the Cipralex did this for sure. I do not trust SSRIs/Imiprimine at all, esp for use at young ages... not to sound like a broken record but i'm positive they ruined my life up to now from taking them at a young age.

Do you think I'm wasting my time by staying on Lexapro (my SSRI)? I'm sure that it's the cause of my low libido, and I've been single for 4 years now. I haven't kissed a girl once during this time either, but amen't particularly caring about it. The fact is that I SHOULD be caring about it, but this damn drug is reducing my libido.

It doesn't just cover pharma's asses. It informs the patient so that they can decide if the benefits outweigh the side-effects. Considering something like depression to be life-threatening and sexual side-effects not, some people might decide that the benefits outweigh the risks. Others would look at quality of life and decide not.

There are lower incidences of sexual side effects with different medications. So if this is an area that is important to you, work with your doctor to find one that minimizes impact.

Thanks for replying. I have talked to my doctor about it on a few occasions but she thinks that it's best to stay on the medication; but there's no real plan for coming off it any time soon. I have tried to come off it before but my mind goes 'insane' and I end up getting terribly depressed. It's like I'm stuck on it.
