Addiction to opening sleeping eyes

A friend has this strange addiction of wanting to open his wife's eyelids while she is sleeping. He has in fact done this a few times when his wife has been too tired to notice. He says he gets some kind of sexual satisfaction out of it, which I cannot understand. He also says he feels guilty about having such a fantasy and especially about acting on it, but he can't help himself. In all other ways, he is a very normal and socially well-adjusted person. He is too afraid to go to a therapist because he is worried he may be labeled as being abnormal. Can anyone help interpret this addiction and what he might be able to do about it?

I have never heard of such a thing. Did "your friend" ever give you any idea as to what he thinks about when he does it? There doesn't seem to be anything abnormal about, aside from being somewhat unusual. While we consider that there are toilet fetishes, S & M, fetishes, etc. I doubt your friend has any reason to fear going to a therapist if this is troubling him so. Without knowing anything else, it seems a possibility that perhaps your friend is trying to see into someone's eyes without him being seen. Or maybe he gets a kick at looking into someone's soul if he believes that old saying. Either way it seems like a vouyeristic fetish and pretty harmless.
