Anthony Robbins?

Postby andrew112 » Mon Jun 27, 2022 7:41 pm

I used to be an avid believer of his material/teachings. But then I realized that perhaps one of the reasons I had gone mad was because of my decision to try to apply his teachings, which I most likely botched. What he preaches and advocates all sounds so great, but it is not the be-all-end-all. He doesn't know what it's like to have a mental illness for years and years. He claims to have helped Schizophrenics, but I am having a hard time believing that. Is he really all that he seems to be?

I just read the first lesson in his book, Giant Steps. It says to "just dream" and ask myself what do I really want for my life? One thing that comes to mind is that I want to be well. But can I really achieve that through his lessons?

He doesn't know what he's talking about. How can he help me if he doesn't know what it's like to be me? I take psychotropic medications because I need them for my mental health, and yet he has insinuated that prescription medications should be avoided. How could he possibly help me?

I'm not going to lie, it all seems so tantalizing. I mean, living on an island resort in Fiji? And it's not just that. He has mastered his emotions, his health, his demeanor, his contribution to society and the world. Wow. Just wow. I guess it's pretty easy just to assume he doesn't know what he's talking about, like I did. And maybe what he preaches really does work. I recall reading in one of his books, Unlimited Power, that he worked with a guy in one of his seminars who had been in a car accident and suffered an injury to his brain. And yet Anthony Robbins got him to act "as if" he had an undamaged brain. Now, what the implications of this are I have yet to know. He was rather ambiguous about the outcome. But what I am presuming is that he claims that if one "acts" like one is normal, one will be normal. Is this accurate?

There's no way his lessons can help me. It just doesn't last like he promises. I read the first lesson, got excited, and then it all went to hell. It just doesn't last. How could he help me? He has claimed to help someone with a preponderance of different personalities as a result of DID. But did he really help them? He's rather vague about it in his book, Awaken the Giant Within.

I was just watching one of his infomercials from 2003. It was a promotion for his Get the Edge program. I got the edge, alright. I'm on edge, so I've got "the edge". This is just an example of how I took everything Anthony Robbins was saying wrong when I read his book Awaken the Giant Within for the first time. It was actually the first time I had ever known about Anthony Robbins at all. I read his book and took it all wrong.

I just read lesson 2 in his book, Giant Steps. He ends the short lesson with, "I believe it's our decisions - not the conditions of our lives - that determine our destiny." I believe he is utterly wrong about this. If I have a mental illness, which is incurable, it absolutely determines my destiny. Ask any psychiatrist and this is what they will agree on. They all agree that mental illness cannot be cured. So, in other words, there is nothing one can do about one's mental illness, which is a condition. The only thing I can do about my mental illness is to take psychiatric medication. And, funny how Mr. Anthony Robbins indirectly conveyed that prescription medications are "bad". What a farce.
