Hi willow,

Everyone has differnt ways to build up self esteem - some people through Gym and exercise, others through being creative, writting music and poems.

Also it depends on what brought down your self-esteem in the first place.

For example, if you held negative beliefs about you're self due to bulling you could then start to challenge these beliefs.

Good luck.

Whilst a topic is here...

My parents smaked/spanked me, and i hate them to hell and back. They always taught me to back down, and wondered why i never stood up for myself at school.

I have no confidence at all, 0. im afraid of animals, insects, fish, birds people, and even going into a shop to hand in a cv...

How would i gain any confidence?

thx. Nark.

The best way to build up self-esteem in a quick burst is to play music that you love.

It better to be happyish type rock like Guns N Roses (Mr. Brownstone!). Playing something that will make you angrier defeats the purpose, but you knew that already.

Music only offers a quick boost to self-esteem but you have to try to make that boost effective. Play the music in the morning when you get up and at least start the day a bit better than the previous day when no music was played...

...You have to at least try

i find that when im "low" if i play so called "happy" music, it makes me focus on everything i don't have and probably never will therefore i become even more "low"....then again, it's the same when i play any type of music and im feeling that way  oh i dunno...

nark,

i think you need to build up trust that not everyone is like your parents.
maybe you have no confidence because you expect teh worst from people, due to your childhood experiences?

how about doing some volunteer work for an animal shelter or helping elderly...i think you will gain confidence if you do something that people appreciate and thank you for.

I have this thing where i get bored, really easily, i worked at mcdonalds in gatwick airport, and it was very busy, but unfortunately it wasnt busy enough for me, and i got bored so much, in the end i quit. I would need something exciting and non stop, or i would just get fustrated.

ive tried listening to happy music, yeah i feel happy, but i get no confidence from it, where as rock, it may fill me with anger, but also confidence, it makes me get up, and feel i want to do something, feel i can do anything. It drives me to doing stuff.

Anyway, i finally caught a daddy long legs yesterday, with a tissue, i havent done that ever b4, and i felt pretty pleased, even though it took me about 5 minutes and hundreds of chicken outs :)

Amazingly tho, i gave up on the woodlice in my room, i got too fustrated.
