Better with Age

Postby tanyagrl » Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:25 am

Somewhere.. sometime.. I read that as you age... you get out of that awkward teenage constantly worried about ur image stage... (is it called self esteem?) On one hand.. i recognize all my strengths and all my faults... on the other hand... i can't manage to shake them... do I just learn to live with myself over time? because so far its not working...

Hi tanyagrl,
Well yes it is partly true, I can vouch for being a woman and
wisdom that comes with it. I through out my life have been lucky to see and work on things I did not like about myself and also
blessed to see the things that I could not change, and I accepted them.
So young adults, are like modeling clay, somethings shape you,
and you shape somethings, and you can have the wisdom to
know the difference.
hope this helps,
Red

Hi, tanyagrl,
Chapter 7 of R.D. Laing's The Divided Self goes into detail on how and why adolescents struggle with self consciousness and image.
The heightening or intensifying of the awareness of one's own being, both as an object of one's own awareness and of the awareness of others, is practically universal in adolescents, and is associated with the well-known accompaniments of shyness, blushing, and general embarrassment.
As one ages, one does come to terms with this. It is sort of like a snake shedding its childhood skin and until the new adult skin toughens up, the creature feels extra sensitive and vulnerable.

I personally feel that the circumstances surrounding self image depends on whats going on in a persons life at the time, regardless of age.
This is based on my own levels of self esteem, which go up and down like a rollarcoaster depending on who and whats going on in my life at the time.
People close to you do they express feelings of support for you,do you have a active life style where you are busy all the time,or is your life running a little on empty free time, leading to more time to dwell on things.
Looking at your photograph feel your appearance is very photogenic, and think you should have no worrys on how you look.
However if there is any unhappiness in your life then this may effect the way you feel.
