Food for thought

Postby Fallen_Angel73 » Wed Aug 08, 2012 11:23 am

Original speculation. Don't know where else to post this.

What the brain feeds on. Primary source of relief:

Code: Select all
Antisocial:    power
Avoidant:      acknowledgement
Borderline:    affection
Dependent:     security
Histrionic:    attention
Narcissistic:  admiration
Obssv-compsv:  control
Paranoid:      safety
Schizoid:      isolation
Schizotypal:   entertainment

Thoughts?

Really, i get less and less what schizotypal is about: from the many tests and quiz i did, i always scored somehow moderate/high on schizotypal, but reading the description of this disorder, i fit only the traits common to SPD: i do not have strange beliefs, nor supernatural powers and i do not believe in aliens or even pretend to; i do not see any meaning in anything, let alone finding something strange. Really, the only traits i share are those common to the schizoid personality.

Still, according to that list and to what my current self pretends to seek, i am: avoidant, paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal.

Its impossible to generalize things like that, every person has a different personality and can get relief in different ways. A primary source of relief can by anything that he can constantly feed himself with.
But you probably mean a source that is limitless and gives the most relief, a source you can use for life and never gets old?

anagram wrote:Avoidant: acknowledgement

I am not sure what exactly is the cause of the problems that avoidants have. I read in the forums, that even if someone likes them, the avoidance person will think he/she himself/herself is not wordy of such affection. They need to find acknowledgement, but from within, not from the outside.
anagram wrote:Borderline: affection

You can add suicide as a form of relief. I can't understand borderline people.
anagram wrote:Obssv-compsv: control

More like self-control. AsPD like control too.
anagram wrote:Schizotypal: entertainment

Isn't this true for everyone? Who doesn't like entertainment? As for a primary source, i have never found it good enough myself, seems to have a limit.

My primary source of relief is knowledge.

Same goes for the other sources of relief/pleasure, to some extent. Which brings me to...

As for a primary source, i have never found it good enough myself, seems to have a limit.

...this: It's a primary source for me. When it's in short supply, there are consequences. When an activity involves no entertainment at all, if feels like torture. I base my life decisions on this.

My primary source of relief is knowledge.

I believe you. And this seems to be the reason why you're apparently an exception among the schizoid posters on the site. How many of them wander around other forums and mind stuff that they have nothing to do with? Zero, I think...

Admirable work Anagram! Thank you.

Based on all the things I know about my condition (Schizoid/ Schizotypal/ Avoidant traits) and acquaintances with other PDs, this list seems remarkably accurate.

'Schizotypal: entertainment' --> Bullseye!

This deserves a wider audience IMO.

Feel free to quote it. I still don't know of any better place to post it. I may post it as a blog entry later, but since you can't edit blog posts, I prefer not to do it without some more thinking and feedback.

Haha looks like Rob is back to his unazhamed zrunk zelv. I've noticed that his rate of non-dot posts seems to have declined to nearly zero.
