I think I have schizotypal

Postby Dexter » Wed Sep 02, 2009 6:39 am

Hello, I am new to the forums. I am not sure if I have schizotypal, but both my psychologist and psychiatrist admitted to thinking I had mild "psychotic features" to my personality. I've had this theory that I am schizotypal for awhile now. Some of the symptoms I have had that match the diagnostic criteria are:

Suspiciousness or paranoid ideation
(I am paranoid ALOT, I am always thinking others are talking about me).
Lack of close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives
(Really don't have friends, I don't make an effort to make friendships, either.)
Social anxiety that tends to be associated with paranoid fears rather than negative judgments about self
(Well, I do negatively judge myself, but I have an extreme amount of paranoid fears that are pretty baseless.)

So, how big are the chances that I have schizotypal?/What should I bring up to my mental health doctors to test for this?

PS: I apologize if any part of this message is incoherent, I am withdrawing from prescribed medication and feel awful.

You may not have schizotypal, you might have just a few traits of the disorder. I think the best bet is to not self-diagnose, but be honest and leave the diagnosis up to them. If you don't agree with the diagnosis you can always get a few different opinions....

The barrier of knowing people and your paranoia are key. If you are going to end up on your own and doing all you can to avoid people, yet still finding it impossible to live with the loneliness then you must be considered ill.
I hate people now, I've been alone so long. No way back for me. People are a different species to me. They are carriers of information that will not shock or interest me. Pod people. You will eventually begin to think your are special by being alone, then you will connect that with how awful people seem. Then you will have a paranoid delusion brewing up. Soon its" Well I must be the messiah or the devil for me to be so different. I'm being kept alone to avoid infection of my brand new ideas."

You need people to remind you that you are just another of the 6 billion people on this sphere. That's what people do: they bring you down to their level. Or up to their level, depending on how you see it.
