Dealing with reactions to changing clothingstyles

Postby Petra » Fri Jun 13, 2008 6:08 pm

Due to the fact that oscillate between my isolating self and my other self which is looking for survival and contact, I change clothingstyles every (few) year(s). So periods in which I dress in a formal style are interspaced with a sort of spiritual look.

I've been finding it difficult to cope with the reactions, since I wasn't aware I had more selves, and desperately wanted a 'firm identity'. Every time I started a new look I told myself this was 'the real me' and what I was in the past was 'led astray'.

Logically, if I couldn't keep track of myself, it was difficult to deal with the reactions from other people. I had to explain I had closed of a period in which I moved in the wrong direction, and basically deny a part of myself which I thought was gone. Whereas it actually was still a part of me in a dorment state, waiting to be in charge again when the moment arrives. I'm happy that I know more about myself now.

How do you get by with these problems?

Hi Petra,

I think that if you continue to devote time to thinking about this, you will eventually stumble-upon a fashion style that you can be comfortable with. I went through many years of changing my style but I have now found a style thatI am comfortable with, and I don't care what others think about it. Ultimately, you should wear what feels comfortable one you, and not something that is uncomfortable and is only been worn to show-off. I'm not saying that you do that though.
