Does my sister have schizophrenia

Postby Guest » Tue Oct 18, 2005 12:15 pm

Hello :D

My sister has been struggling lately with a lot of different mental health issues. I am thinking that its possible that she has schizophrenia. Here is the symptoms I *know* she has.

She talks to herself. But not really TO herself, she creates charectures and builds senarios, almost like acting in a play. Ive walked in on her doing this, and she would be switching charectures, and acting out storylines. She will act like men, women, children, anything. But if she is caught or knows somone is around, she wont do it. Im not sure if this is seriously a mental health issue, or if she is just odd

Also she has claimed to have hallusonations(spelling 8) )

What are hallusonations? When you have them are they so real that you think its a real person? or is it more objects being distorted. she has said she has seen a walking corpse once, and i believed her.

Thanks to all that reply :D :D

I think I acn help you with this.

Hallucinations can vary from person to person, but for me this is how they are. Everything I see, feel, hear and touch are all very really to me- it took me around 7 years to find out that much of my world is only happening to me and not the rest of the planet.

I have been trying to explain how it works to my boyfriend recently but it is pretty tough. The thing is, that an "imaginary" person is as real to me as a "real" person is. I can feel what they do, I can be picked up by them and hit by them, poked by them, hugged by them etc etc. I have no idea how my behaviour looks to an onlooker having never met someone in psychosis myself. I have been unfortunate/fortnuate (delete as approriate) as to been encouraged by my imaginary world to keep it hidden from the real world and have been "found out" much earlier otherwise.

As for your sister having schizophrenia, it is certainly a possibility. She shouldn't get diagnosed with it straight away as it may be a glitch in her life- but you must try to do something to help her. If she finds her hallucinations distressing they may encourage her to do things she may not normally do and she will need all the support and help she can get.

I hope this helps a little.
