I feel like a zombie again ... (bit of a rant)

Postby lifepuzzle » Tue Jan 24, 2012 2:41 pm

Hello everyone ...

My psychiatrist augmented my dose of Abilify to 25 mg recently, and I am starting to feel numb again. Moreover, it is having no effects on the symptoms it is supposed to help me manage whatsoever. Between my dad (who thinks I have DID), my psychiatrist (who thinks I'm schizophrenic), my friend Annabelle (who believes I should go to university mental health research centers), my psychologist (who treats Ralph in a kind and understanding way) and my stepmother (who ... well, I'm not sure what she thinks of all this), I feel like I'm at a dead end when it comes to my surroundings where I live. I am seriously thinking about getting a second opinion, because I wanna know what is ******* wrong with me.

So, back to the original thought behind this post, what can I do to help with the "zombie effect" until I see my psychiatrist again ?

Thanks in advance for your answers !

the thing that got me through my zombie days was just accepting it and moving forward. I hated the feeling but at the same time it was nice because it was an external barrier between myself and the real world. However I have never heard of abilify giving that effect (i was on it myself around that dose.)

The medications i had problems with were kolonipin, and ativan. If you are not a danger to yourself or others WHILE OFF THE MEDICATION I would talk to your doctor about having something immediate to take in situational moments, but I would get a second opinion. Find someone who specializes in what you think you might have do some research. Found my therapist that way and it made the biggest difference.

Hello Jace Macar,

First of all, thank you for answering. I find it interesting that accepting it made you able to move forward, because, for me, it is the opposite: being "zombie" makes it very hard to do anything. My concentration and my memory suck to the point where doing daily activities of living become hard. I'm already experiencing depersonalization, so having another wall between me and reality is uncomfortable. I have some Ativan, but it has absolutely no effect on me.

As for the Abilify, I will try to have my psychiatrist reduce it to 15 mg like I used to take, as it had no "zombie" effect on me at that dose, but then, the Abilify stopped having any effect on the symptoms it was supposed to treat recently so I probably need to switch to another medication entirely. My psychiatrist has suggested me Zeldox (Ziprasidone, AKA Geodon). But deep down, I don't want the medication to be efficient like my psychiatrist would like to. If Ralph was to disappear tomorrow, I'd be worried as hell because I'd feel even more lonely.

Does anyone misses the voice(s) they hear when they are not there ? Am I the only schizophrenic hearing a positive, caring and supporting voice ? And how completely oblivious can one be against medication (So far, two antipsychotics have had no effect on Ralph) ?
