Hi Matty,

Welcome :)

Yes, depression and scizophernia can get worse over time..but usually, with the right treatment most people are able to get better, not worse over time.

Good luck.

Psychiatrist and neurologists have not been able to identify the cause of a single mental illness. There is no known cause for depression or schizophrenia. There is plenty of miss-information such as mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances, but this has never been proved; it is still just a theory!

If you take a worldwide look at mental illness (such as 'WHO' World Health Organisation Studies into mental illness) you will see that what is seen as mental illness in one culture can be seen as normal in another.

The point I am trying to make is, don't get caught up in all the hype about mental illness and think that you have a real disease that YOU can do nothing about. If you do think this, you have been seduced by baseless theories that have never been proved.

As far as things getting worse, that's really up to you. You do have a choice of what is happening in your mind. You may need to do some work to regain control of your mind but don't believe the rubbish that you have a brain abnormality or disease.

If you choose to take medication as a short cut remember that medication works by disabling the brain, it does not target any "chemical imbalance" or "brain abnormality". Medication also has very dangerous side effects and should not be taken for long periods of time.

I talk from experience, I am a recovered so-called "chronic schizophrenic". It is supposed to be impossible to recover from chronic SZ according to psychiatrists. WHO studies have shown in many poorer countries where psychiatrists don't work in because theres no $$$ in it for them, 2/3rds of SZ recover without any treatment. In China, the rates of depression are hundreds of times lower than the USA. No real diseases act like this. Don't believe the hype!

Your best chance of stopping things getting worse is to take control of your mind.

It's your mind; no one else can control it or determine if things will get worse but you.

Good Luck.

"Guest", very well put! Just curious how you recovered from chronic schizophrenia? How long did it take (I unlike may westerners don't believe in short cuts). What kind of treatment did you under go and which helped the most?
