Am I overreacting?

Postby idioTsyncratic » Sat Aug 13, 2011 8:47 am

So I posted a rather lengthy (probably too much so) description, link http://www.psychforums.com/living-with-mental-illness/topic70338.html#p563156, of some stuff over in 'living with mental illness' but without much luck. Here's a simplified version. Basically, a few months ago something imperceptible happened, and it's been getting worse.

Now: everything looks pixelated (sparkly almost) and 'vibratey' most of the time. Other times everything is crystal clear. Random things frighten me (noises, shadows) that wouldn't have before. Sometimes the pixels/sparkles will fall. I've spoken to a therapist and a psychiatrist (both of whom I've known for some time), but they seem to almost patronize me when I try to bring it up at all. It's not that scary in itself; the possible causes are. I'm really looking for anyone who can relate to these experiences at all, but I'm not even quite sure if this is the right place to look. Thanks in advance for any advice that you guys care to share!

What do you do during the day? Are you active? Or just bored out of your mind? Or maybe too much activity/stress?

My aunt was sick for awhile and had to stay in bed. It lasted about a year and she said she could see faces on the walls and shadows that moved around the room and that the room would "breathe".

I'm just saying that maybe you need to find some activities to pass the time. The mind can play tricks on us if we are just sitting around all day doing nothing. It will start hallucinating.

Same thing goes if you are too active and under stressful situations.

You need to find some time to relax but also keep active and be around people.

I could very well be wrong. If it's bothering you a lot... you need to see a doctor. It could be much more than just an idle or stressed out mind.

Keep us updated!. :)

Thank you for that. I've been moderately busy, proof-reading (pun intended) some research papers for a professor, but not really too stressed. However, I realized it's been a couple of weeks since I've hung out with people, so I did. It was a bit bothersome (alone time = gold), but for whatever reason I seemed to snap out of the 'fogginess', at least for a bit.

Philosophically interesting how the physical presence of a person can affect perception in a way that the presence of other physical objects doesn't... Maybe it's that simple, but I've got an appointment in two weeks already just in case. I'll probably post an update after I hear her 'omniscient, don't worry, i'm a psychiatrist' advice.

Thanks again!
