rocking back and forth

Postby Guest » Thu Jul 07, 2005 7:43 am

ok as long as i can remember ive always had spells of me crossing my arms and just rocking back and forth sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes upward of an hour. My dad noticed it last nite and told em to stop which i couldnt because wen im in these spells it feels awkward for me to stop so i continue to do it. He said its a sign of somethign wrong and ive been diagnosed with bipolar, social anxiety, and clinical depression so i know somethign is wrong btu he said this is different and right then and there went online to find out. He said its a big sign of schizophrenia i told him that i dont have it of course but it seemed to really disturb him. He said he is going to talk to my doctor about it and im kinda worried now...any comments? is this a sign of schizophrenia? or can it be related to something else?

IMHO...rocking back and forth is not a symptom of schizophrenia.

The anxiety can do it.
Alot of people do it too for comfort whether they are stressed, sad, depressed, anxious etc.

As far as schizophrenia is concerened I don't know...
Doesn't sound like a symptom though... :?

 I've done it all my life. I find the repetitve motion soothing when I'm tense. I have panic disorder and I'm bpd, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not Schizophrenic. Doesn't help when I'm in a panic attack but it helps when I can't sleep sometimes. I've heard people say its not "normal" but I don't know that I've ever heard that it was a particular symptom of anything.

Rock on

Anyone here heard of rocking chairs. Why were rocking chairs invented? Because people like to rock. No rockers arn't crazy. Rocking is part of our culture. Why do people want to label all human behavior as mental illness?

Tell your Dad you want a rocking chair for Xmas or your Birthday.

I wish my dad would say something like that to me. I'd buy a rocking chair and decorate it with knifes, axe's, gun racks, bones n $#%^. I'd paint it black and red and call it me schizo's chair. I'd walk past him in the house and say "I'm going out the porch to my schizo chair for a rock". I'd rock and laugh and make him feel like a dickhead for saying anything about rocking.

What a stupid thing to say!

haha, NW, I had to double check to make sure you didn't write that little thing about rockin' chairs.

I like to rock back and forth also!! I do a lot of weird things like that, but I don't believe for one minute that i"m schizophrenic, I may have a few other problems mentally, although I'm not sure, but schizophrenia isn't one of them.

I also rub my knuckles together. My thumbs hurt when i'm nervous. I feel my fingernails with my lips. And I bite on the inside of my lip. All of these just being my random querks. I wouldn't worry about it I were you. Even if your dad does talk to your doctor about it, your doctor will probably tell him that it isn't anythign to worry about...at least that's what I think will happen...but what do I know?
