I really need advice Is my GF schizophrenic? Religious

Postby Concernedconfusedbf » Tue Jun 28, 2011 8:32 pm

My girlfriend recently has started reading the bible and studying an odd religious belief that her mother believes in. My gf tells me that god is speaking to her and guiding her to becoming a truly amazing person. He is training her to be like him so that she can be an example to others. She claims that he tells her that he and his good friends are constantly fighting evil beings for control of the earth. Eventually they will defeat the evil beings and all of the good people on earth will live an eternal perfect life. The bad people will die. So she has been writing all of these discussions in a journal. She writes her feelings and expresses her love and loyalty to god. God replies by telling her to trust in him 100% give her whole heart to him. If anyone questions her belief they are foolish and they will one day have to believe or die.
Her mom has been following this belief for years and claims to be married to god. Her moms bestfriend claims to be married to another being. My girlfriend thinks that she is following something positive and doesn't see anything wrong with comunicating and asking god for guidance on everything. Is this a case of Auditory Hallucinations? She trusts this voice 100% which she connects with when she wants to. This voice doesn't just appear randomly. Only when she speaks to him. Somebody please let me know what you think is going on here?

only thing i can suggest you do is ask her if she is actually hearing a voice in her head. does she hear a voice all the time? ask her if when she moves, or hears a sound does it turn into a sentence from god. she might be talking about these voices symbolically.

She doesn't hear gods voice at all times. The voice will talk to her when she wants to talk to the voice. Would this be an auditory hallucination? I've read her journal where she writes all of these conversations and the voice just tells her over and over that she is doing a great job, I love you my daughter, trust in me 100% give your heart to me, believe in me and I will guide you. You're learning and becoming the good person that you've always wanted to be. The voice tells tells her this everyday and reassures her that he is real and she is doing the right thing. She feels very comforted by this but now she is at the point where she checks in with god to guide her with every step of her life. This is alarming to me because it takes away the normal relationship that we can have because she is checking with "god" and trusting everything he tells her to do. I am wondering if this is more normal behaviour than I think? Is she just believing in god or has she developed auditory hallucinations and is it just her mind guiding her as she believes it's god voice?

just explain to your gf that she is kind of freaking you out by her behavior. ask her if she has schizophrenia and see what she says. there are other symptoms, but the fact she controls the voices she hears kind of makes me doubt it. Im not a doc but i get voices and have no control over what they say, or when they show up unless im on meds.

She doesn't understand why this would freak me out. She believes that she is on an amazing path to "heaven" and that god wants her to be a positive example to others. She can't believe that I would think that it's just a voice in her head. She thinks she's a great person an she reaches out to god and he responds and guides her down the right path.

This sounds like my pops except he gets messages from spirits and sees spirits. He also believes in evil forces which include demons and Jews. He is a great person like your gf because he's going to invent a spirit communication device and become famous.

He hasn't been diagnosed or anything since he's certain that all this is real and therefore won't submit to an evaluation. I'm scared that he's paranoid schizophrenic but he doesn't have a diagnosis so I'm not sure. Eep!

Yeah that's the thing, it's so strong that they believe in it 100% and they also believe that we just don't understand. It is hard to politely convince someone that they may need help when they believe that they are doing to right thing and they feel like they aren't effecting anyone else.
