I was just diagnosed with residual schizophrenia. I was wondering if I could be normal or live a normal, motivated life after taking Abilify for only a month or two.

Are you saying you'll only take it for a month? I'm not familiar with all the subtypes of schizo, but I thought in general it needed long-term treatment, so that's the basis I'm making the rest of my statement on. If the stresses in your brain do ease before a month and it is in result of you taking the med, if you stop taking it, the symptoms may come back down the road. It isn't like an antibiotic, a virus isn't the currently proposed problem, it's too much dopamine.
Ah, a motivated life. That would indeed be terrific.

You probably already have tried going without, is that correct?
Talk to your psychiatrist about this, but my experience is that the short term effects of taking antipsychotics are bad and the longterm affects are good, so if you stopped taking your medication a couple of days you probably feel on top of the world right now, but keep not taking your medication and you'll find things decline.

The reason I ask is because I'm a marijuana and opiate user and want to do those without the weirdness of Abilify. Oh well.

Or too little dopamine. I realized I got severely depressed when stopping this unnatural crap. Don't any of you wish you were born with a normal brain? Sometimes mentally ill people seem so accepting of it.
