Hearing Voices/Noise/Embellishments

Postby savavdpeas » Tue Jun 08, 2021 2:29 am

Lately I have been hearing what starts out as "noise", then embellishments, and then abusive and embellished voices, which include someone I know saying abusive/negative things about me. I know these are hallucinations. The last med reduction I made was back in February of this year. Ever since then, my medication regimen has been stable. I have been on Olanzapine ODT 25 mg and Escitalopram 20 mg. I suppose these noises/embellishments/voices might subside after a while. The reasoning behind this idea is that I will adjust to my "new" dose (My medication regimen has been exactly the same since February). My psychiatrist reinforced my idea and said that I will adjust to my medication. What he meant by that was that I will adjust to my "new" medication dosage, even though it's been EXACTLY the same since February of this year.

Anyway, is it possible to adjust to a lower dose of medication?

I'm not schizophrenic but I have some family history of it. I've seen up close what tweaking meds and doses can do.

Since you're very aware these are hallucinations, I think in your position, I'd go with the doctor's recommendations on how long to give this dosage a chance, before edging them back upwards, if the hallucinations are too bothersome.

I'm assuming these are oral daily doses? Looks as if the typical max daily oral Olanzapine dose is 20mg, that to me would be incentive to give things some more time if the doctor thinks it's worth it to keep on these dosages a while and see if things settle down. Fingers crossed that things even back out for you- maybe he'll be game to tweaking it down to 20mg eventually, if you do well on this.

The medications I take are oral tablets. The Olanzapine is a disintegrating tablet. I just feel like my psychiatrist and I are not really on the same page.

Sometimes sounds sound like they are being amplified. I know this is part of my illness.
