Schizophrenia runs in my family. Is there any chance that I

Postby ijustwannabenormal » Mon Aug 28, 2017 3:57 am

could have it?

I've been experiencing hypnopompic hallucinations every single time I wake up. Every morning, I'll see terrifying shadow figures, hundreds of tiny black spots all over my wall, or full blown colorful and lively hallucinations in front of me. I know they're not real, but I'm still horrified!

Could this be a side effect of drugs and alcohol? I do abuse those regularly, but even when I quit cold turkey, I still see those disturbing visuals.

What exactly is the cause of this?

By the way, I tried to look up a few symptoms on the internet and I DO NOT have narcolepsy. In fact, I usually have a hard time falling asleep.

Drugs and alcohol can cause that, yes. What drugs have you abused? If cocaine is one, then yes, that's most likely the cause. Cocaine is known for that, and it can be permanent. Even quitting cold turkey won't change that. Harder drugs - cocaine, meth, heroin, etc - can all cause permanent psychosis episodes. If you feel that this is something that is hindering your life, then I'd recommend going to a doctor and telling them about your life.

Also, depending on how much you abused alcohol, it can also have a similar cause, depending on the severity of your abuse.
