Talking to myself

Postby Imperius » Thu Dec 11, 2014 11:10 pm

Hey I am a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic. I used to have these delusions or auditory hallucinations where people will say I am talking to myself in public. Lately these delusions seem to be coming back. I was at a restaurant and the waittress asked if I was talking to the wall. However, I seem to be able to control this delusion or maybe she did say that. At the moment I can still challenge my delusions and thoughts. I don't suppose I need to go back to the hospital for this as long as it is under control?

If you still have open connections to your hospital due to your previous treatment, it might be good to schedule an appointment, just to make sure there is always someone to fall back on in case you feel the need to.

How do the people in your surroundings react? Have they recently spoken out concerns, or noticed any changes in your behavior? I don't ask this because I doubt your own judgment, but others can often help you to judge whether you still have everything under control, because they view things from an outside perspective. They often notice any changes sooner.

I was stressed and overwhelemed by my exams and I ended up not writing any of them. The hallucinations and delusions started coming back coincidentally. I suspect the stress may have trigged another episode of psychosis? I do see my psychiatrist every 6 weeks. However, school is starting again January and I want to get my life back in order ASAP. That's why I am contemplating going to emergency and getting voluntarily hospitalized so I can go to school again.

Yeah, stress can definitely be a trigger. I've been adviced to restart things slowly. I totally understand you want your life back in order as soon as possible. I think we all want. But please take care of yourself in the meanwhile. Closely monitor the way you feel, and try to slow down a bit if possible when you start to feel unpleasant. Do what you can of course, but don't ask too much from yourself. Sometimes, a bit more time is needed to get things back on track.

Maybe it's a good idea to get yourself voluntarily hospitalized indeed, if that's possible. It might help you to take a deep breath and unwind a bit, so you can settle down again before the start of the new semester.

Hi Imperius

I think it's a good idea to see a doctor or get voluntarily hospitalized as you will receive the treatment you need in irder to function properly.

Wish you the best
