Thanks for the input guys..

Sorry that some of you have had some bad experiences with this medicine. I have been using it for more than a month now, and I really like it. I have insomnia now and then, but not in a manner that I can't sleep in the evening, it's just that I wake up very early in the morning. But perhaps that's for the best eih?! :) ..I'm beginning to sleep more and more these days though, and I think it's about to be balanced out.

Abilify has been a great success for me so far, I use 15mg now (began @ 10mg). I'm happier, have more energy than usual, and all-in-all I feel more like myself than I did on Zyprexa. Zyprexa was ok too, but my opinion is definately that Abilify is better for me.

Thanks for the input again, folks. I hope you may all find the medicine that suits you best! :)

I foster a mentally challenged adult that has schizophrenia. She is currently taking Abilify (since February) and had one side effect. She was up most nights. She had been taking it at bedtime so the doc changed the dose to the morning and she then slept fine. She actually lost 25 pounds taking the drug (but could afford to lose it). Unfortunately this drug does nothing to control her psychosis (she is on max dose 30 mg). They tried to give her Haldol but I will not let them give her that drug so they are refusing to prescribe anything else until she sees a neurologist (she also has Tourette's). I think it depends on the individual as to how well the drug will work and what side effects it may bring. Just a long trial and error process till you get the correct drug/drugs for you. Can't hurt to compare notes though! Good luck to you and I wish you well.

Using Abilify now.

Postby apple90 » Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:46 am

I have schizophrenia three years and I also have taken amisuplride for three years. But I suffer the side effect including gain weight and no periods. My doctor recommands me to change to Abilify.

Now I take 15mg Abilfy and 100 mg Amisulpride per day. I experience no specical side effect except a numbed feeling in my two fingers. I don't feel tired and sleep very well so far.

My doctor's plan is to decrease the amisulpride to 0 mg and increase the Abilify up to 25 mg within a month.

I will tell me more about my feeling after I fully depending on the Abilify.

I am schizophrenic and have been taking respiridal for over 3 years that acted as a major tranquiliser and caused me to gain weight and be generally a zombie and very quiet i now have been taking abilify for a couple of months and find it a hell of a lot better i am loosing tons of weight i am awake in the mornings i sleep generally better and am more productive ...however if i have caffine i become anxious and very nervous or overly paranoid so now i shall avoid that and continue with abilify. the doctor has started me on 10 mg we are hoping to up the dosage to lessen the voices thanks guys for this forum :D

I've been on Abilify for years now, and I think it's much better than Zyprexa. I was also on Haldol (injected), and it worked too but made my back stiff. The only side effects with Abilify that I've noticed are a certain restlessness and a shaking in my hands. I take the generic form of Cogentin for the shakiness, and, (presumably inadvisably), I smoke in order to deal with the restlessness. My strange thinking has really been stopped though, and I guess that's the most important thing to me. So, I guess the bottom line is that I think Abilify is a pretty great drug overall.
