Questions about SZ

Postby NancyG » Thu Mar 30, 2006 6:13 pm

I have two questions about Schizophrenia.

1. If a psychiatrist told a patient who was diagnosed with schizoprenia that his disease was chronic and that the symptoms would never go away if he didn't take medicine for the rest of his life, would this be medical malpractice? What if the patient who was diagnosed (possibly misdiagnosed) with Schizophrenia doesn't take his medicine and does return to normal? Is there anything that can be done about this?

2. If a patient who is diagnosed with schizophrenia denies it for years, is it usually that he doesn't want to admit that he has it, or is it that he truly believes that he doesn't have it?

Thank you very much for your time.

It depends. I got SZ through episods. While I am in hosital, and thats few weeks, I dont belive I am ill but yet I dont believe anybody aything in that state of mind And thats a part of delusional thinking. When I am out ,with meds or without, time passes and in few months I forget how horrible and painfull my episode was and this incouriges me to think that I would never again get tricked by such silly ideas. So I might think I am cured or misdiagnosed, but thats only till the next episode. More convincing symtoms of SZ in my case hav started recently-negative symtoms. They are convincing to me because things like mess in the house, not cooking, not showering are obviuos and material and were not part of my personality. But even this simptomsare are hard to be excepted becasue the cause can be rationalised: I am not swhowering cuz I got nover to go; I am not cleaning cuz nobody is visiting;I am not visiting because I have matured and understud all people are terrible etc.

Psychiatrists are guessing. People recover. Do some research.
