A lot of people talk to themselves. Mental Disability or not.
Normal Conversation: I think we should go out to eat today.
My Land: today! eat out? go. should we? i think! *flaps hands*

Cough... Do you seriously think talking to yourself makes you insane? I don't talk aloud but i have tens and tens of conversations with myself a day, about all different topics. My head never stops moving, I have schizoid PD, insomnia, and have a lower self-esteem than anyone I've ever met. Music is the only thing that soothes my mind.

Well I talk to myself in my head. And if no one is around I will sometimes talk aloud to myself.
I even have conversations as if there was someone there. I do this for a variety of reasons:
1. I helps me sort out my thoughts in general.
2. It builds experience for real conversations.. namely arguments. Well, maybe I am a bit paranoid but these mock conversations are often debates relating to things in my life that I may have to defend.
3. It helps me get things out so they don't stay bottled up. That can help fend off depression.

Everyone has internal dialogue. What does everyone do when they're alone with their thoughts? They talk, to themselves, no one else to talk to. A good goal for meditation is silencing the inner dialogue.

I have tons of little conversations with myself, especially when I'm alone. Usually, they're all in my wee noggin, but sometimes I talk to myself aloud. It tends to happen more often if I'm trying to make a decision, or when I'm thinking about what I'd like to tell someone in my life. It helps me sort out my jumbled thoughts.
Oh, and as far as I know, I don't have any mental illnesses (other than depression in my past).

P.S. I'm not a shrink.
