Door open or closed?

Postby vertices » Sun Oct 03, 2010 6:10 am

Do you sleep (or just generally have) you door open or closed?

I get so OCD about this issue it's ridiculous. I have to always have the door closed and feel separate from any other people in the house (or even if there's nobody else in the house). I wonder, is this a personal issue or typical of schizoids (maybe introverts in general, even)?

I'm extremely introverted and I ALWAYS have to have the door closed shut. All lights must be black. I've gotten in trouble for disabling the smoke alarms because they have this annoying little flashing light at night. I can't sleep if there's light coming in the window, so most of the time I'll sleep in the closet. The only light I can tolerate is natural lunar or stellar light, so sleeping in the middle of the woods is no problem. The reverse of this is when I'm napping. If I'm napping, it's usually because I'm feeling more social and therefore want to be included in the house. THAT's when I leave the door open. Or I'll just take a nap next to the kitchen. I also sleep with animals, I sleep with dogs, cats, mice, pigs, goats, and sometimes a bird. But I never sleep with humans.

Always closed, for privacy reasons. I don't want anyone looking at my things and in the past strangers did that and now I don't ever leave my room without locking the door.

Right now my room has no door... but that isn't a problem because nobody else lives here.

When I was living with family I kept it closed. However, if it was really warm and humid I was forced to open the door for air circulation so that I could sleep at all.

At my dorm closed. I do not understand how people leave their doors open here. The idea of anyone being able to catch a glimpse of your private space is strange to me.

I find open doors to be extremely uncomfortable. I also find sitting with my back to a door uncomfortable, regardless of whether it is open or closed.

I wasn't aware people sleep with the door open. That's just weird.

Also, I second Cirvante. I can't sleep with my back to a door.

I've always slept with the door open. I feel uncomfortable if it is closed.

The door has to be closed for me. Doesn't matter if it's nighttime or midday. That room is my sanctuary and if I let others in to often I can't relax and be myself in my room.

The best thing to do is to have nothing questionable in your room, in my opinion. Unless, of course, you just feel irrationally paranoid about others seeing your dresser or something of that sort.

On-topic: I don't care. It doesn't matter what the room looks like for the most part, just as long as the bed is soft.
