The part that was constructed as a defense mechanism, that isn't about feeling pleasure but more about avoiding pain, that isn't pleasurable in itself but exists to keep the pain at bay, is malleable to some extent to increase happiness.

But yes, tools and resources are needed. And willingness.

Tools? Check.
Resources? I have a ski mask but no weapon.
Willingness? On good days.

Halfway there?

Thanks for your input, Eight.

This was my experience. Although home was better than school because I could retreat to my room and nobody would bother me. Essentially, I learned that isolating myself was the only way to avoid the pain of mistreatment.

Same, but normally I would go outside. My mom would check in on me if I was in my room. We lived about 20 minutes away from civilization by car, but thankfully I grew up on a ton of mostly forested land. My mom eventually made me take a walkie talkie, even though I often "forgot" to turn the volume up to hear her calls and "accidentally" walked passed the range.

I was never bullied, surprising really considering I was short and had a stutter (theory as a kid was stutter came about due to ear issues I had), but I just was always assertive and confident I guess that people never messed with me, or if they tried, they'd discover I wasn't a victim, as a result I got on well with people who were the types to bully...plus I kinda think now I may have somewhat have been a bully in a way, but I never intended to be so, I for example just use people for my own entertainment and this could include going too far mocking people maybe.

I attended six different primary schools as a child, and I was bullied in two of them. Nothing serious, just being made fun of because of my glasses and my lack of friends. In high school I wasn't really bullied, but I was unpopular, so long as I avoided the popular kids they didn't bother me.
